Laquan Smith: Rebirth & Renaissance

Since the Brooklyn native Smith debuted his brand on the fashion scene in 2013 he has been taking this 2.5 trillion industry by storm. He's everywhere and nowhere. With acclaim from fashion icons and it girls like Beyonce', Lady Gaga, and Rihanna you could imagine why his brand clinetle is described as globally dynamic yet private. With the release of his recent collection at NYFW three months ago the pieces can be seen as bold and futuristic yet inticing and reminant of the past. The dauntless tailoring and fabric/ texture choice can be seen in american fashion in the 50-90s. The silouette of these garments are what point us in the future. Examples being the cut of the womens two pieces, structure  of the pants and shorts, as well as the loud neon, metallic, and textured prints. The models bone straight middle parts, sleek hairstyles, and the combination of those wet nomakeup bronzy looks paired with those bold eyeshadow looks take us back to when sex appeal and mystery loomed runnways leaving audiences in awe. There was also an apprecation to be had about the model walks and level of individuality as each model graced the stage. To be able to structure a collection in a way that speaks to many juxtoposing postions/ views and still come out with a theme that pushes the thought of clothing to the future is truly powerful. It makes one question everything they think to know and possibly love about clothes and what a valuable perspective to make.
